2 teams
For classrooms, workshops and training days
In a classroom, the group makeup changes every lesson: reading circles, lab partners, project groups, cover lessons where you have never met half the students. Typing the class list once and pressing Build Teams turns a five-minute negotiation into a five-second task — and because the split is visibly random, nobody can argue that the teacher is playing favourites. Rate students from 1 to 5 when the goal is mixed-ability groups, and the generator spreads the strongest and the struggling students evenly across teams so no table is left with all the confident voices at one end and all the hesitant ones at the other.
The same mechanics fit professional settings. Trainers use it to form workshop breakout groups that mix departments and levels of experience instead of letting colleagues cluster with the people they arrived with. HR teams use it for onboarding cohorts, department away days and team-building afternoons, where the same two or three dominant voices otherwise end up grouped together every time. Hackathon organisers use it to seed balanced project teams at the start of the event — and to reshuffle in seconds when a group turns out unworkable. Everything runs in the browser on a projector or a laptop, with no installation and no account needed.
Fair splits and private roles
Skill-balanced splitting is the feature teachers and HR teams ask for most: sort by rating, deal out in a snake pattern, and each team's total lands as even as the maths allows. Prefer pure chance? Switch to random and reshuffle until the groups look right — nothing is locked in, and participants see the result at the same moment you do.
The Roles tab covers the professional side: hand out facilitator, scribe, presenter and project-lead style roles with equal distribution across the group, or assign one named role per person. Roles stay hidden on screen until you reveal them, or travel privately by email and one-time links — so a training-day role arrives in each participant's own inbox instead of being read out to the room. For game nights and sports, use Custom Teams.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use it for a class of 30?
Yes. Add up to a few dozen students and split them into 2 to 20 teams; larger classes split just as fast. For mixed-ability groups, rate students 1–5 and choose Skill-Balanced.
How do I create mixed-ability groups?
Give each student a skill rating from 1 to 5, switch the distribution to Skill-Balanced, and the generator deals students out so every team's combined rating is as even as possible.
Can participants receive their role privately?
Yes. Add an email address per participant and use the private delivery options: each person gets their own email or one-time link showing only their role — useful when roles should not be read out loud.
Do I need an account?
No. Building teams and assigning roles works instantly without signing up. An account only adds the option to save sessions and reuse your class or staff lists later.
